Secrets of The Zoo is a National Geographic show that takes viewers inside the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio, one of the largest and most popular zoos in the United States, as well as its conservation park, The Wilds. The show offers behind-the-scenes moments and heartwarming stories that visitors cannot experience, featuring the animals and the hardworking staff who create unforgettable connections between people and wildlife. The show also introduces viewers to Jack Hanna, the zoo's director emeritus and beloved wildlife guru. With over 10,000 animals on 12,000 acres, Secrets of The Zoo is a captivating and informative show for animal lovers of all ages.
As the Creative Director for Interface Media Group, I led the design effort for the full graphics package for the National Geographic show, Secrets of The Zoo. This involved creating a range of design elements, such as logo design, title animations, lower thirds, and map indicators, all of which were tailored to the unique look and feel of the show.
Our design approach was to create a playful style that utilized color and movement to capture the essence of the show. To achieve this, we developed a toolkit that could be customized for each featured animal with a different stylized texture that mimicked the animal's skin or fur pattern. We initially created 10 variations, but due to the client's enthusiasm for the concept, we ended up producing more variations for each new episode.
The success of this project was evident in the continued partnership between Interface Media Group and The National Geographic Channel. Our graphics package design received positive feedback from the client and the show's viewers. This project served as a testament to our ability to produce high-quality designs that exceed our client's expectations.
